How to cook snow crab legs 3 Ways
I had guests the other day and guess what I entertained them for 3 hours without breaking a sweat. Among other recipes, I cooked snow crab legs in 3 different ways: steaming, broiling and stir frying some the Thai way. They were all finger licking. Below are the ingredients I used to cook the snow crab legs 3 ways described above.
1 pound crab legs
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp chili paste
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 cm long lemon grass cut into fine pieces
1 medium sized shallot sliced
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1 tbsp cooking oil
3 tbsp melted butter or as needed
Various methods of cooking crab legs
Divide the snow crab legs into 3 parts. I will use one part for stir fry snow crab legs, one part for broiling and I will steam one part. I believe there are so many ways of cooking crab legs out there like boiling snow crab legs but what I am just about to outline here are my classic ways.
First,I begun with stir fry snow crabs legs. So easy, in a hot pan add cooking oil add chilies, garlic onion and lemon grass, saute until soft. Add a third of the crab legs and stir, remember these crab legs were washed in salty water prior to cooking. While the crab legs are cooking, I quickly make the stir fry sauce by combining oyster sauce, fish sauce, chili paste, brown sugar mix well. This is one of my favorite Asian ways. You could check out home cooking like a pro for stir fry recipes here. This was was for Shrimp Fried Rice but the stir fry guide is applicable to all stir fry recipes.. Ensure the sugar dissolves fully.Substitute sugar with honey if you so wish. Add the sauce to the pot and stir, add in about a half cup of hot water, this will help the snow crab legs to cook all through. Serve and poor the sauce over. Yum.
Secondly, I steamed crab legs, I washed them in salted water, boiled water in a pot and added some salt, I placed a veggie steamer in the pot and placed the crab legs over covered and steamed for 10 minutes. These guys taste very good eaten with melted butter.
Finally, I broilled the last batch of the snow crab legs, this is also easy peasy, I placed the crab legs on a baking sheet, brushed with melted butter on both sides and broiled them on high for 10 to 12 minutes. I turned them half way through the cooking process. Serve with melted butter or your favorite sauce.
